Children’s Emergency Food Bank
Christmas Basket Distribution
Traditionally, late November and early December is when we begin preparation for the Children’s Emergency Food Bank annual Christmas Distribution. This is an event that involves a large number of volunteers from the JKPC congregation and various other organizations including several Girl and Boy Scout Troops. A large amount of food is purchased and delivered to Fellowship Hall. It is then put into apple boxes that are eventually given to about one hundred families who have registered and come to pick it up on the second Saturday of December. Each family is also given a $20.00 Safeway gift card toward the purchase of Holiday meats.
The 54th annual Christmas Distribution again took place but the preparation and delivery to the clients was quite different due to the circumstances created by the Covid 19 Pandemic. While we have been open every day on our regular schedule, we were unable to gather in large groups to prepare the food boxes or to arrange to deliver them to clients in the usual manner. This year each client family who had received food during the year received a $100.00 gift card in the mail in mid December that replaced the normal Christmas Food Distribution. This should be considered a one-time gift. We are hopeful that things will improve before too long so that we can return to the more normal tradition next year.
